Typing this out after they extended the end of the beta by a couple of hours and wanted to get some games in before bed because God knows when we're going to see another beta, let alone the full game at this rate

So Overwatch 2 is still within my rotation as far as games I play on the regular; it simultaneously scratches the itch of being competitive but also relaxing (paradoxical but yeah). As such I feel like I can identify many of the elements this game shares with Overwatch but can also recognize as well what it does differently, and as of now I enjoy where it differs - not saying what this does is better than Overwatch, just different is all.

Fights overall feel like they last longer and are very much more chaotic, bringing to mind launch OW. It took a while to get used to since OW2 is by far a more refined game that has like 8 years worth of history behind it. For example, you get a bunch of games where people wanna play more DPS or tanks which can lead to uneven team comps, but they're workable all the same and the roster does feel like it has clear cut character archetypes within them.

Will say though that overall Rivals has a more aggressive tone than Overwatch at this point in time. Not many heroes have traditional OW-style shields but they do compensate for it via other defensive mechanics like mobility and temp health. Trying to heal feels more frantic in turn where you can sort of healbot but for the most part you kind of also need to put some effort in as support offensively where you can.

Some characters do need a bit more fine tuning which is what betas are for and all. For example, Magneto kind of hits too hard when he has the team-up skill with Scarlet Witch where he can spam energy waves with his greatsword; at that rate of fire and damage I get that it's only something he has in a certain circumstance, but his melee output somehow put both Hulk and Thor to shame. Black Panther also is in need of buffs or some other notable tweaking to his kit, because as an assassin-based character who dashes in to get his kills and gets out, his kit feels very all or nothing where if you fuck up the dive, he just ceases to be - also just kind of making the passive he gets useless where he does more damage the lower health he has because he likely just gets melted.

Heroes overall felt fun to play. Not everyone on the roster was my cup of tea but some characters really clicked with me. I jokingly refer to the characters here as being the bastard lovechildren of Overwatch functions with half new shit to distinguish them further.

On a personal level - as someone who has Genji as his favorite Overwatch character ever and Spider-Man as his favorite character in general, having Spidey be the Genji function in this game is a fucking dream. The man feels like Genji if he had some shit taken from classic Doomfist and Reaper, so despite the fact that Rivals labels him as the hardest character to play (NGL I do find it funny that the most popular character in this game is also the one you need to invest the most effort into playing), he's also the most satisfying to play. Swinging around and never getting hit is an amazing feeling, only rivaled by the one-shot combo potential where you dive a marked enemy and do a brief MVC aerial rave to clinch the kill.
